Oil Guard

Oil-Stop Reservoir Cap Switch

A $159 switch that prevents a $10,000 problem.

Stop a leak before it stops your wallet — or the EPA.

Oil Guard replaces the standard 3/4″+ threaded vented oil fill cap on your hydraulic reservoir with an adjustable low-level float switch. Set the float to the minimum oil level your operation tolerates. If oil drops below that line — a hose lets go, a fitting weeps overnight, a cylinder seal fails — the float falls, the circuit opens, and your pump stops. The leak stops with it.

Oil Guard — drop-in replacement for a vented hydraulic reservoir fill cap

The math: one leak it stops pays for 50+ units

Replacement oil (30-gal reservoir)
$720
Run-dry pump damage (typical)
$1,500 – $4,000
EPA-reportable spill cleanup
$5,000 – $50,000+
Lost route / facility downtime

$500 – $5,000+

Total exposure per spill incident
$7,720 – $60,000+
Total exposure per spill incident
$159 / unit

The asymmetry is the point.

Your worst day without Oil Guard costs five figures and a call to the state environmental office. Your worst day with it costs a service call, a few gallons of oil, and ten minutes to reset.

How It Works

1

Unscrew

Remove your existing 3/4″+ threaded vented oil fill cap from the reservoir.

2

Thread In & Set

Install the Oil Guard in the same port. Slide the float collar to your minimum-acceptable oil level and tighten the bushing.

3

Wire It

Two leads — wire to a PLC digital input (programmed to stop the pump on open) OR in series with the motor-starter relay coil for direct shut-off. The pre-wired quick-disconnect lets you remove the cap to top off oil without re-terminating wires.

Two Ways to Wire It

Option A · PLC Input

Wire both leads to a 24 VDC or 120 VAC PLC digital input. Program the logic to:

  • Stop pump output on contact open
  • Trigger fault alarm / HMI message
  • Log timestamp for maintenance

Best for: new builds, smart compactors, fleet equipment with telemetry.

Option B · Motor-Starter Series

Wire the switch in series with the motor starter’s hold-in / coil circuit (up to 120 VAC). On low oil, the contact opens, the coil drops out, the pump motor stops. No controller required.

Best for: retrofits, legacy compactors, operations without a PLC.
